Visit to Hatfield House on 25th April 2019
Walking Group
30 April 2019
Members of the walking group enjoyed a leisurely walk through Bushey Park on a lovely spring day. The walk started from the large car park at the Hampton Court gate end and headed through the Woodland Gardens towards the Hampton Gate entrance and The Upper Lodge Water Gardens. After that we headed back towards the Pheasantry Café and lunch.
Gardening Group
Leonardslee was wonderful, well worth a visit. The azaleas, rhododendrons etc. were superb. The gardener told us they have a 20 year plan for the gardens. If you book on line it is cheaper. The dolls house is stunning and not as you would imagine. We all felt the dolls house was worth the entrance fee alone. Bear in mind lots of steep terrain.
Our plant sale at the June WI meeting. If any WI members have any plants we would be very grateful.
Some members of the gardening group tidied up and added new plants to the flower beds at the Ashtead PMH.
Ashtead Village Day 8th June 2019
Despite the weather, Village Day was a great success. The strong wind in the morning made erecting the gazebos quite challenging but with the help of some of our husbands the job was made easier. There was a lovely selection of cakes, jams and marmalades for sale all made by our members, plus a raffle for a hamper of fresh produce. The draw for the raffle was made by Chris Hunt, the Independent Councillor for Ashtead Village Ward. The winning ticket was number 831 and was won by Brenda Blythe.
Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard both before and on the day.
Arundel Carpet of Flowers 19 June 2019
I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.
A number of our members visited Arundel Cathedral for its Annual Carpet of Flowers. The weather remained kind during our time there. Later in the afternoon we moved on to the village of Sidlesham where the local WI kindly hosted a cream tea. What a delicious tea it was too! Everyone enjoyed the day.
Standen House and Saint Hill Manor 22nd August
A large party of members and guests visited Standen House. The NT property houses a fine display from the arts and crafts era of William Morris and Arthur Liberty, the latter of the well known London store. After lunch we moved on to Saint Hill Manor, which is situated close by. This house and estate was purchased by L Ron Hubbard, founder of the Church of Scientology, as its UK headquarters. Today it remains the HQ and houses a small museum to the founder. After a tour we enjoyed a cream tea. The weather was at its best, warm with blue skies and everyone enjoyed the outing.
